At Easter, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In my country, we celebrate this anniversary with the whole family. On Easter Monday, we first have a big breakfast with many different kinds of food. A special one is a cake called kulitsch and something like cream called pasra. This is a Russian tradition which we took over from my grandfather, who is from Russia.
After the big breakfast, the children go in the garden to search for eggs which were hidden by the Easter bunny. However, the Easter bunny does not only hide eggs. The children can also find many chocolate eggs and chocolate Easter bunnies. In many kindergartens, the children paint Easter eggs on Easter Monday, with many colours and nice pictures.
In my family, if we found all the eggs, we went back in our house, drank coffee, and ate cake. At 6pm the Easter Fair began, which we went to every year. In the past, we always celebrated Easter at my uncle’s home in Mannheim because he was a pastor there. When church was finished, we went to a restaurant for dinner. At the end of the day, we just went back home and sat together with something to drink.
